Wilson Underline Community Meeting Highlights
Thanks to the ICA folks—Lesley and Joseph—for hosting the Wilson Underline community meeting in their wonderful conference room. Julianne Scherer and Brett Weidl gave an amazing presentation highlighting the history of the community’s vision and actions that support a dynamic public space around the $203 million Wilson Reconstruction project. Became clear that the CTA has little regard for listening and the public process in planning.
During Q&A an attendee asked Alderman Cappleman how he is supporting his constituents on this project. First response from Cappleman alluded he was at the meeting as an observer and it was a complicated process. As the conversation continued and audience comments suggested Cappleman take a stronger position—he agreed to step up and take a stronger leadership role in making the Wilson Underline be the welcoming community transportation hub the community wants.
DNA Info also covered the meeting. Click on link to read the DNA Info story.
We’d like to re-frame the question and issue raised in the DNA Info article from—”Who’s paying for it?” To, “Isn’t It a No-Brainer to Spend $203 million on the Wilson L Project and Find Another 1% to Create a Vibrant People-Friendly Public Space?”
Wilson Underline committee is drafting the letter/email letter that will go out the Mayor and a list of elected officials to keep the momentum growing—it will be coming soon. If you are not a Wilson Underline subscriber, sign up at www.wilsonunderline.com
We hope to have a Wilson Underline spokesperson speak at the July 5—CAPS, Sheridan Park Neighbors meeting. The unfortunate date after the July 4th holiday may hinder any one being available to attend.
