In closing—they marched in full view of 2 police cameras, 2 police cameras recording all of this. Sunnyside/Malden. Sunnyside Magnolia.  Each camera costs approx. $24,000.

One tree killed. One gang banger escapes after slamming a stolen car into a mature tree that once lived in the Sunnyside Mall at Malden. 

 

When does this insanity stop? When do we clean out the gangs who have no respect for human life or nature?

Super Fun-time at the Sunnyside Mall Arts & Music Fest

The Sunnyside Mall once again became a welcoming community place filled with creative local artists selling handcrafted items ranging from beautifully knit scarves, coolest wire-art sculptures, jewelry and paintings at oh-so-reasonable prices. 

 

Mellow music set the tone for shoppers.  Some folks just sat back to enjoy the sounds

 

Thumbs up for the yummy Gorditas and Tacos from the food truck.  The kids enjoyed their own creative moments with Amanda manning the Arts & Crafts table. 

Some folks took a look at their futures with a Tarot Card reading.

Julianne Scherer, the Sunnyside Mall Arts & Music Fest Creator, continues to amaze us with her many skills and talents to transform our neighborhood.  However, as the saying goes…It takes a village…to uplift and re-imagine our neighborhood, to bring peace and harmony to our public places and streets, to re-imagine the Wilson public space by creating the lively and welcoming Wilson Underline.

What’s Next for the Wilson Underline Campaign?

What’s going on with the Wilson Underline public process and campaign?  The Wilson Underline survey, with close to 1000 respondents, overwhelming supported, with 94% of the survey-takers, saying YES to the Wilson Underline TOD (Transit Oriented Design) Public Space design.

Folks having been asking, what’s next for the Wilson Underline? How can I be part of the campaign?  Julianne and Brett, the Wilson Underline project leaders, took a much needed break with major personal changes in their lives. They’ll be back soon.   In the meantime—you can support the Wilson Underline project by:

• Visit the Low-Line Farmers Market, under the Southport CTA tracks.  See how the Low-Line project is re-imaging the creative community use of public space under the Southport CTA Brown line tracks.  The Low-Line Farmers Market takes place every Thursday from 3-8 Pm. CHA Gang infested housing—still waiting for Community meeting date with CHA, etc.

The numerous CHA gang infested housing, see GWNA July newsletters for details, remain gang infested.  We are still patiently waiting for this meeting to scheduled. In the mean time, we strongly encourage residents to attend CAPS and demand this meeting be scheduled. We are also looking for lawyers who can offer guidance on pursuing housing providers not in compliance with HUD, IDHA housing and public safety mandates.

Sheridan Park Yard Sale plus the Sunnyside Mall Arts & Music Fest set for August 6^th

Tomorrow, the Sheridan Park streets will be crowded with shoppers looking for bargains at this year’s Sheridan Park Yard Sale.

• Broadway to Clark, Montrose to Lawrence, Maps will be available

Stop by the Sunnyside Mall Arts & Music Fest, enjoy the music and food while browsing and shopping for local artists’ creations.

Update on CHA Gang Tenants, Hot Spots & CHA Community Meeting

Our neighborhood remains on high public safety alert with the gangs openly selling drugs on the corner of Magnolia and Sunnyside.

The drug dealers now offer curb service from this location, operating out of the CHA 4454 N. Magnolia Unit E of Tracey Dixon. They have torn off the back gate that’s been hanging precariously since May.

In early July, the Sheridan Park Block Clubs requested a community meeting be scheduled with the appropriate CHA Staff, police, and alderman, and possibly the Sheriff. We are still waiting for this meeting to be scheduled. The CHA has failed miserably to assure their properties follow Safe Housing Guidelines. Since CHA is not in compliance with HUD and other Federal Housing guidelines—we will continue to explore other options to hold the CHA accountable.

The current list of Top Gang Housing and Hot Spots include:

• CHA 4454 N Magnolia, Unit E, Tracey Dixon
• CHA 4425 N Malden, Unit F, Sims brother, including brother shot in front of Bezazian Library last month.
• Voice of the People, 4431 N Racine, Unit 3S, home to one of the Williams brothers
• CHA 4454 N  Racine, unit formally occupied by Sherrie Gamble and the notorious Williams brothers.

Gang Hot Spots:

• Broncho Billy Playlot, 4437 N Magnolia
• Sunnyside Mall, outside 4454 N Magnolia unit

A Very Special Thank You to our Chicago Police Officers

We are very grateful to our Chicago Police officers who are doing their best to babysit the gang problems while the CHA falls down on their job.

Police often sit for hours in front of the CHA 4454 N Magnolia property. The CHA 4425 N Malden property lacks good sight lines and the property offers gangs lots of out-of-sight places to nefariously conduct their business. A full assessment of CHA housing policies to assure their tenants and our community can live peacefully?
