Welcome 2013 and join your neighbors for the first annual GWNA Membership Meet & Mingle event on January 17. It’s the perfect time to mix a little fun while sharing ideas on how we’ll continue to make our community a great, safe, vibrant place to live.

Block clubs have an enormous influence on shaping their community. What do you want to see in our neighborhood? Retail streets like Lincoln Square? A bustling public market? The new Wilson L Station with a patio café? Or a school that really offers innovative education?

Graceland-Wilson Neighbors held its 2nd Annual Halloween Party last Saturday and it was a roaring success (maybe not coincidentally, given the numerous lion and tiger cubs roaming the mall).

Countless kids came out, plentiful pecks of pumpkins were decorated, spooky stories were read, cartons of candy were consumed, and much mirth was had by all.  It was lovely to see so many neighbors enjoying the beautiful morning together.  Special thanks goes to Kami McLochlin for her dynamo-like efforts in organizing the event.

Like last year, we have photographic evidence of the festival for posterity.  A small sample can be found in the slideshow below.

The full set of photos can be found by clicking here.

Thanks to all for coming out!

Check out the photos here.

See, lots of fun.

Please join us again this year for “Part II, The Revenge” this Saturday at 10:30.  Bring your kids and/or animals in costume, meet some new neighbors, and enjoy the fall weather (we hope).

Here are the details:

Despite this past weekend’s dire events  in our ‘hood, we are happy to report some positive, fun news.  GWNA held its first ever Kids Halloween Fiesta this past Saturday morning.  It was a tremendous success.

I estimate that at least 60-70 people stopped by, with a third to half of them being cute kids in costume.  Somehow, we also plowed through a bushel of 55 mini-pumpkins.

Overall, much mirth ensued, including fabulous works of pumpkin art, mass consumption of sweets and plenty of neighborly conversation with new acquaintances.

Huge props to Kami McLochlin for organizing the event and special thanks to Irma Perres and the CPD for keeping a watchful eye on things.  Also, thanks a million to everyone who donated time, candy, and decoration collateral—the kids loved it.

We have plenty of pics too:

1) For a quick summary of shots, see the slideshow below.

2) For a longer slideshow at full screen resolution, please click here.

[PLEASE NOTE: If you are a parent who wants to download a photo of your kid and can’t figure out the Flickr interface (it’s less intuitive than it should be), just post a comment below to that effect and I can walk you through it.]

Thanks again to everyone for making this happen!

P.S.  If you haven’t already, please consider entering your email address and hitting that “Subscribe” button the right side of this page.  It’s by far the best way to keep up with the latest GWNA news and upcoming events.  Thanks!

Though clearly not the best-named location for a spoooooky Halloween get together, please join your neighbors at Sunnyside Mall on 10/30 at 10:30 AM for a Kids Halloween Celebration.

Dress up your kids in costume and bring ’em out to strut their stuff.  We’ll have some games, pumpkin decorating, a short “parade” and, well, general mirth.  Dogs (in or out of costume) are welcomed too.

No kids? No problem.  Stop by anyway to hang out and meet your neighbors.  The details:
